Hi Everyone,
Thank you to the Jr. Jazz Band for performing at our open house last Tuesday! We received some really nice feedback from parents and grade 8 students that were visiting our school. :) Jr. Jazz also chose to hold an “open rehearsal” allowing our visitors to observe our rehearsal process – thank you for this (It’s not easy to be put on the spot like that). Thank you to everyone that completed Term 2 requirements! Report cards will be issued on Friday, February 14th at 2:00pm. Exam Week / Band 1.) Classes and Rehearsals There are no classes or rehearsals Monday – Thursday this week (except for the Pit Orchestra on Monday and Thursday). Friday Jr. Concert Band at 7:30am Period 1 – Band 10 Period 2 – Band 11/12 Band 9/10 Practice Cards = Turn in Week 20 for marking. Start Week 21. 2.) Glanford Middle School Visit on Wednesday – SR. JAZZ BAND Jr. Jazz will NOT be performing on Wednesday morning at Glanford school. Sorry – there were too many conflicts with the Science 10 provincial exam to bring a functioning band. Thank you to the Sr. Jazz Band for being able to jump in for this gig on short notice. Much appreciated! All members need to meet at Glanford (4140 Glanford Ave) at 9:30am. Go to the Multipurpose Room near the Glanford Avenue entrance. If you can help with set-up in the gym, please meet me at 9:00am. Thanks! We perform at 10:00am and will be done by 11:00am. Pieces TBA. **NO UNIFORMS REQUIRED** … Wear whatever colour of socks you want! Pink… purple… polka-dot… up to you! ... Okay, no polka-dots. :) 2.) Pit Orchestra – Sing Through on Thursday The Pit Orchestra will be joined by the “Drowsy Chaperone” cast on Thursday for our annual sing-through. Orchestra members need to be in the pit ready to play by 3:15pm. Please be prepared with all mutes, music, pencils etc. and do not be late (exceptions for those writing exams that day). Thanks! Enjoy the rest of your week. :) Jamie Davis ![]() The University of Victoria Wind Symphony is presenting a joint concert with The Naden Band of The Royal Canadian Navy on Friday, February 7th. (8:00pm-10:00pm at the University of Victoria Farquhar Auditorium). The UVic Wind Symphony has been recognized as one of the premiere university wind ensembles/concert bands in the Pacific Northwest. The Naden Band of the Royal Canadian Navy (Canada's Navy band on the West Coast) is a multifaceted ensemble of thirty-five professional working musicians who, as ambassadors of national pride and goodwill, perform throughout Canada and abroad. Both ensembles are highly respected and perform to a high standard. This will be an EXCELLENT performance and I highly encourage all students to check this concert out. You will not be disappointed! ***Student tickets for this concert are only $5 and accompanying parents also get in for $5. (Regular tickets are $12 for students and $14 for adults). Jamie Davis Hi Everyone,
I hope this finds all of you doing well after a restful holiday break. Welcome back! We had a great turn out for the Bottle Drive yesterday – our most profitable January drive in recent years. This was due to how many students and parent drivers (15! -WOW! THANK YOU!) were out. Together, you raised $2182 for student accounts and the band program! We have a busy spring ahead! Please download an updated list of Dates to Note for the remainder of the school year and will be handing a paper copy to students in classes this week. I have organized some concert opportunities (jazz, concert band, orchestral, musical theatre) for students wanting to see/hear professional musicians in town. They are on the second page of the Dates to Note. Check it out! 1.) Fine Arts Showcase Performances We will again be participating in the Fine Arts Department showcases January 15 – 17. All evening performances will start at 7:30pm (in the school theatre) and will feature numbers from our dance, musical theatre, media arts, and band programs. I have decided to break up our performances so that we don’t have all of the bands performing every night. Bands required, call times, and performance times are listed below. Once you are done performing for an evening showcase you are free to leave. The Senior Band and Sr. Jazz Band will be performing during the day on Thursday and Friday. Re: the approaching exam period: I will provide Running Orders and an altered schedule for next week’s morning classes due to the evening concerts. I will also be providing study/homework time in my classes. Students should take advantage of these opportunities as exams and course finals are approaching.
