It's a busy time for many of our students with festival, the musical, rehearsals for the band trip and a junior band concert coming up. Thanks to parents for making sure that students get to where they need to be and for encouraging kids to get to 7:30am rehearsals on time. Thanks to everyone who came out to the Bottle Drive on Saturday morning! We raised $1400 for student accounts and the band program itself. Thanks also go to Stephanie, Dar, Seb, Cody, Cam, Jason, and Josh for performing at the Vancouver Island Parent Conference on Saturday. Well done, folks! 1.) Morning / Lunch / After School Rehearsals Monday - Sr. Concert Band / Jr. Jazz / Pit Orchestra Tuesday - Jr. Jazz Band / No Sr. Jazz (I'm lecturing at Uvic) / Sectionals Wednesday - No Morning / No Lunch or After School due to BandFest Thursday - No Morning / Tour Band / Sectionals Friday - No Morning / Tour Band Meeting / No After School 3.) Concert Bands to UVic on Wednesday for BandFest I will have a running order available and will email it out on Monday morning. Thanks for your patience. We will be traveling by bus to and from the festival. 4.) "In The Heights" Congratulations to the cast, crew and orchestra of our senior musical production of "In The Heights"! We had 2 strong shows on Friday and Saturday and I'm really looking forward to our second week of shows. The musical continues this week: Feb 27, 28, March 1, 2 at 7:30pm with our final show on March 3rd at 2:00pm. Tickets are selling fast so call the school office (479-8271) if you would like to reserve tickets for this week. 5.) Jr. Band Concert on March 7th The Junior Concert Band and Jr. Jazz Band will be performing with our feeder schools on March 7th at 7:00pm in the Old Gym. The call time for Spectrum students is 6:00pm in full uniform. A running order will be available shortly. Thanks, everyone! In The Heights The Senior Musical production of "In The Heights" opens on this week! The show runs Feb 22, 23, 27, 28, March 1, 2 at 7:30pm, and a matinee show on March 3 at 2:00pm. Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and can be purchased by calling the school office (250-479-8271). Check it out! Please feel free to share the poster by email, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Thank you to the members of the Pit Orchestra that gave up their Friday AND Saturday to rehearse for this show. It's a professional broadway show and the demands on an all student orchestra are HUGE. The orchestra kids are doing a great job and should be proud of their efforts! I know I am. :) 4.) Hopefully everyone enjoyed their long weekend! Here's what we are looking at for this shortened week: 1.) Classes Tuesday – Jr Jazz, Band 9, Sr. Jazz, (extra help available after school) Wednesday – Sr. Jazz, No Jr. Jazz, No Classes (Gr. 9/10 students NOT in Jr. Jazz go to PE, Gr. 11/12 students go to English classes), Pit Orchestra Thursday – Sr. Concert Band, Sr. Jazz, Band 9, Band 11/12, Pit Orchestra Friday – PRO D DAY! Practice card week = 21 2.) Jr. Jazz Band to Glanford Middle School on Wednesday Mr. House has asked for a band to play at Glanford MS on Wednesday afternoon. Jr. Jazz students will be excused from Period 1&2 classes on Wednesday to do this. The school has booked a bus to take us to the middle school. No uniforms will be needed for this performance and we will return to the school for 3:00pm. 3.) "In The Heights" / Pit Orchestra Rehearsals We are getting very close to the opening of our senior musical, "In The Heights" and our Pit Orchestra has been working really hard. We have rehearsals on Wednesday and Thursday this week, plus a full day of rehearsal on Friday (9am-4pm with lunch provided). A dress rehearsal will be held on Saturday (10am – 5pm). Tickets for the shows are on sale now and can be purchased by calling the school office (250-479-8271) 4.) UVic Band Festival - Feb 27th Please add Wednesday February 27th to your schedules. Both concert bands will be participating in the Uvic Concert Band Festival at the University's Farquhar Auditorium. This is an excellent opportunity for students to receive feedback about their playing from adjudicators (before we head to Port Alberni which is a competitive/Provincial festival). We will be performing in the afternoon and will be traveling there and back by bus (with lots of time to spare for musical theatre/orchestra members to prepare for the show that evening).
