Thanks for a great first week back after Spring Break. Kids were working hard and were a pleasure to work with throughout the week. Thanks to everyone that completed their Term 3 requirements. On to term 4 – only 3 months left!!?! Students: If you submitted requirements online but DID NOT get an email back from me with a mark, please see me ASAP. Also, please make sure that you are practicing for Marching Band as part of your home practice routine! 1.) Period 1 & 2 Classes No change to schedule. Friday = Band 9 in Period 1. Band 9/10 Practice Cards – Turn in week 29. Start Week 30. 2.) Morning/Lunch/After-School Rehearsals All lunch rehearsals are running as scheduled. Morning Band (Note change on Wednesday): Monday - Sr. Concert Band Tuesday – Sr. Jazz Band Wednesday - MARCHING BAND Thursday - Jr. Jazz Band Friday - Jr. Concert Band 3.) Sr. Concert Band Country Grocer Performance on Saturday, April 5th Please stand-by for more details about this performance (Sr. Concert Band). I am still waiting to hear back form Country Grocer’s management about this gig. Thanks for your patience! 4.) Jr. Concert Band Performs at Hampton Little League on Sunday, April 13th The Jr. Concert Band will again be performing for the Hampton Little League ceremonies (last year we were unable to perform due to so much rain and mud on the field). Details are coming as I work with the organizers. Tentative Schedule 10:30 – Crew Sets Up on Field 11:00am – CALL TIME for all band students 11:20am - Warm–up and tuning 11:30am – Pre Show Music 12:00pm – Ceremonies Start 12:40pm - Pack–up, Go home. ***Parents with vans/trucks - if you are able to help with moving equipment please let me know! We have a lot of gear to move (chairs, stands, amps, percussion etc.) 5.) Jr. Band/Jr. Jazz Spring Concert on Tuesday, April 15th Our annual Spring concert with Glanford and Colquitz is on Tuesday, April 15th at 7:00pm in the Old Gym. Spectrum Jr. Jazz and Jr. Concert Band students need to be at the school by 6:00pm in full uniform. We hope to see you there! A detailed running order will be available at the end of the week. A crew of 12-15 students is need to help set-up the gym. If you can help out with this please sign up in the band room ASAP. 6.) Thank you and congratulations to everyone involved in our senior musical “The Drowsy Chaperone.” I am so proud of our pit band members who performed a tough, professional broadway score and performed it so well! Bravo, everyone! Here’s what we have on the go this week: 1.) Period 1 & 2 Classes No change to schedule. Friday = Band 9 in Period 1. Band 9/10 Practice Cards – Turn in week 26, 27, and 28. Start week 29. 2.) Morning/Lunch/After-School Rehearsals All rehearsals are running as scheduled. There will be a MARCHING BAND practice (all students in grades 9 –12) on Friday morning at 7:30am (NO Jr. Concert Band rehearsal). Please dress appropriately (haul out the gum boots and old shoes!) as we will be practicing outside. If the weather is REALLY bad we will be practicing indoors in the old gym. 3.) Requirements DUE on Friday Requirements (playing assignments), practice cards, and any outstanding assignments need to be turned in no later than 5:00pm on Friday, March 28th. There are no extensions. Requirements can be performed in class, one-on-one when I am not teaching, or uploaded to the band website. (Go to www.spectrumband.ca, hover over the ‘Students’ tab and select ‘Requirements / Online Submission’). Copies of the Term 3 mark breakdown are available on that page as well. 4.) Mother’s Day Hanging Baskets Forms and money are due Monday, March 24th. No later orders can be accepted. Visit the fundraising page on www.spectrumband.ca for more information. 5.) MusicFest Travel: Forms, Hotels All students attending MusicFest in May were given a package of forms on the last day of school. We are asking for your assistance in completing these forms and bringing them back to the band room on either Wednesday March 26th or Thursday, March 27th between 6:00pm and 7:30pm. Our band parents association executive members will be going over students’ travel forms in preparation for the trip in May. If you did not sign up for a hotel room (groups of 4) please see me ASAP on Monday. 6.) Congratulations to our pit orchestra and the cast of “The Drowsy Chaperone” for a very successful opening weekend! The show continues this week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm. There is also a matinee on Saturday at 2:00pm. Tickets can be booked by calling the school office at 250-479-8271 ($10 adults, $8 students). Band This Week: 1.) Pit Orchestra/“The Drowsy Chaperone” This Week Monday – No Rehearsal. Wednesday – Rehearsal at 3:15pm Thursday – No Rehearsal. Performances: March 6, 7, 8 at 7:30pm (6:30pm call time). March 8th matinee starts at 2:00pm (1:00pm call time). Dinner will be provided by Chef Humeniuk for all students between the shows on Saturday. Tickets are still available and can be purchased from the Spectrum office (Call 250-479-8271). 4.) Mother’s Day Hanging Baskets MOTHER'S DAY HANGING BASKET information can be found here. (These will be handed out in classes as well this week). These forms are due March 24th allowing students the opportunity to sell lots of these beautiful baskets during the Spring Break. The 2 hanging baskets are available as either sun or shade for $25, they are packed full of plants & bloom into an amazing display of flowers & colour, as well we also offer a small planter for $15. You will not be disappointed and they make wonderful gifts for mom's, grandma's, aunties, friends or simply enjoy them yourself. This fundraiser is a great opportunity for students to make some great money towards their band accounts, about $9.50 from each $25 basket goes directly to individual accounts. 5.)
