Hi everyone!
Thank you for attending this years "A Touch of New Orleans"! The gymnasium looked great, dressed with floral arrangements and decorations. Our Jazz Bands and combos performed well and the desserts were delicious! Thank you to Nancy Wong and Alison Hoogland for spearheading the event! Raffle tickets, auctions items, behind the scenes... a tremendous amount of work went into delivering a fabulous night. Thank you to Cynthia, Michelle, Liz, Russ, Chuck, Bonnie and Cheryl for helping out! You will receive an email from me this week to arrange for payment and pick-up of prizes won. Stay tuned :) Scrap metal drive is extending to the end of the school year. We keep having to order new bins so we are rollin' with it :) 1) Band Classes in Period 1 and 2: Monday - Band 10 in Period 1. Please arrive to the school at 6:15pm to gear up. We will be assisting our middle schools with taps, cadences and giving them an opportunity to hear what it sounds like to have a drumline in support. Looking forward to it! 4) Jazz Bands To West Coast Jazz Festival Next Week The Jr. and Sr. Jazz Bands will be traveling to Nanaimo this Tuesday, May 1st to participate in the West Coast Jazz Festival (the bands will perform, participate in clinics, catch the VIU Big Band Concert and the Adjudicators’ Combo performance, in addition to hearing school jazz bands, and a group dinner). Students will miss all 4 classes. A permission slip with a detailed itinerary was sent home this week. Please return the permission forms back A.S.A.P. 5) Level ground Coffee C/O Nancy Wong: Due to a low demand in Level Ground coffee sales for the last two months, May will be our last month in continuing this fundraiser. When we don’t receive enough bag orders to meet the monthly quota for free delivery, families who have submitted an order are advised to wait for the next month, and when there are not enough orders for the next month, it is frustrating for the families who have put in an order and may decide not to participate again. This fundraiser was resurrected two years ago when the band families requested it to happen. As fundraisers, we were happy to comply and it was an easy way for the band students to raise money for their individual band accounts. This fundraiser can be revisited again at our last band meeting in June, if there is a serious high demand for it. Please take this opportunity to order as many bags of coffee as you need at this time. $4.63 from each bag of coffee your student sells, go towards his/her own band account. Coffee orders are due Tuesday, May 15, by 3 p.m. On the Horizon April 29th: Evening rehearsal with Middle School Marching band, accompanied by Spectrum Drum Line.
