I hope you had a great weekend! Thanks to everyone that came out to the Bottle Drive on Saturday! We made just over $1200 for student accounts and for the program. Here is what we have on the go for this week. Can you believe that it's almost June? 1.) Classes Monday – Band 10, Band 11/12 Tuesday – Band 9 Wednesday - Band 10, Band 11/12 Thursday - Band 9 Friday - Band 10, Band 11/12 PRACTICE CARDS: LAST WEEK! (Week 36) Complete and turn in for marking next week. :) 2.) Morning Rehearsals Monday – Sr. Concert Band Tuesday – Sr. Concert Band Wednesday – Sr. Jazz Band Thursday – Sr. Concert Band Friday – Final Jr. Concert Band **Please attend all rehearsals and classes as we are preparing for the year end concert. 3.) Oak Bay Tea Party Parade – Saturday, June 1st. Please read the running order for the Oak Bay Tea Party Parade on Saturday. We will be meeting at 9:00am at Windsor Park in Oak Bay. A map has been provided. Please, remember to wear sunscreen if it's a nice day (Some of you looked a little… crispy… at the end of the last parade….). 4.) Year End Band Concert – Tuesday, June 4th – 7:00pm at the Victoria Conservatory Of Music (Alix Goolden Hall, 900 Johnson Street) Our Year End Concert is coming up quickly. A running order will be available mid-week once I have finalized a few more details with the VCM staff. CHECK OUT OUR YEAR END CONCERT POSTER. Please share this with your friends and family and share on Facebook and Twitter. It would be wonderful to PACK the Alix Goolden Hall to support Spectrum's amazing student musicians. Admission is by donation to the Band Program (not to the Victoria Conservatory). 5.) Glanford Year End Concert / Ms. Gerrits' Last Concert Glanford's Middle School's Year End Concert is on Tuesday, May 28th at 7:00pm on the school gym. This is Pam Gerrits' last concert at GMS at she has become a Vice Principal in the Sooke School District. :( GLANFORD BAND GRADS - it would be so special for her if you were to attend this concert and show your support for Ms. G as many of you got your start in music with her. :) Her email is pgerrits@sd61.bc.ca should you want to contact her by email. 6.) Congratulations Spectrum Marching Band – First Place in the Canadian Bands category at the Victoria Day Parade, today! Bravo, everyone – your hard work really paid off and you embodied our motto of "Sound. Appearance. Precision!" I am so proud of each and every one of you and am very proud to be your teacher. Thanks to our amazing band parents that helped us prepare for the parade by braiding hair, helping with uniforms, carrying water, taking pictures, and so much more. If any of you have pictures or videos of the parade, I would love a copy (on CD or USB Stick) so I can display them for Spectrum students! Thanks also to our Jr. Jazz Band who performed for Grade 8 Transition Day an our Band 9 class that performed during the grade 8 tours on Thursday last week. 1.) Hi Everyone, Thanks to everyone in the marching band for your performance at the 2013 Provincial Soccer Tournament on Saturday! I think this was a strong start to the marching season. Thank you to Morgan, Kyla, and Sharon for volunteering to sing our national anthem at the beginning of the game! We now turn our focus to the parades. Attendance at morning rehearsals this week is REALLY important (spacing, turning, marching precision will be a focus). 1.) Sunday, May 19 - Weekend Band Practice at Camosun College The Marching Band will have a final parade practice on Sunday, May 19 in the Camosun College (Interurban Campus) Parking Lot from 6:00pm - 7:00pm. Please arrive BEFORE 6:00pm to get set-up. Uniforms are not needed. 4.) Monday, May 20 - Victoria Day Parade Students will need to meet at MAYFAIR MALL at 7:45am on Monday morning in full uniform. We are in section D which means we are in the second half of the parade. A detailed running order will be emailed home at the beginning of the week. Please DOWNLOAD THE RUNNING ORDER for the Marching Band's performance at the 2013 BC Soccer Provincial Championships this Saturday, May 11. We will be meeting at Langford Lanes (1907 Langford Parkway - which is right beside the field we will be performing on) at 3:15pm on Saturday. Family and friends can come and watch - we will be performing at Westhills Stadium. We will be finished around 4:35pm. Parents, if your student is not able to attend this performance, can you please email me ASAP. I need to re-space and re-align the band if there are absences. Thanks! Looking forward to this.
