Great work everyone – very musical and very tight marching! Again, we had everyone arrive on time, and no complaints about the long wait (almost 4 hours before we got moving!). Thank you to all of the parents that helped in the marshalling, took pictures, and cheered us on all along the route. Pictures can be found on the Band’s Facebook page (Search for Spectrum Community School Band) now and will be uploaded to the band website asap. Band This Week 1.) We will again offer double credits for parent drivers! Thanks, everyone! Cheers, Jamie Hi Everyone,
Marching Band There is a Marching Band practice TONIGHT starting at 6:00pm at Spectrum. We will be finished at 7:00pm. Please make sure that you take EVERYTHING that you need for the parade tomorrow home once we are done. We have a number of uniform bits and pieces left over from the trip. Please check to make sure that you have all of your uniform parts and let us know today at practice if something is amiss. We meet at 7:45am at MAYFAIR MALL in Section E-10 on Monday morning (in the Mayfair parking lot closest to Denny’s on Douglas Street). There are 141 groups in the parade and we are in position number 131 if you want to come later to the parade (I don’t know why we have been placed at the very end of the parade this year – Sorry! :)) . I am not sure what time we will be done so students might want to carry their cell–phones to call for rides at the end of the route. MusicFest Results In case you have not heard already both the junior and senior concert bands recieved GOLD standings from the adjudicators at MusicFest (that means they received gold standings from all FOUR of our adjudicators). On top of this, both bands received GOLDS in their sight-reading workshops (playing and learning music that they have never seen or heard before) Congratulations to all of you for your hard work! Be proud of what you have accomplished here. Spectrum students received praise for their musicianship, performance, attitude, uniforms (from other bands) and a variety of other things. One of our clinicians even told our junior students that they had the strongest performance out of any Level 300 band that they had heard all week. Our senior band was praised for tackling really challenging and diverse repertoire or “risk taking” instead of “playing it safe” because of the nature of the festival. Bravo, folks! Your kids were spot on in our clinics/workshops as well – answering questions and offering musically mature thoughts and suggestions! Your kids were amazing in non-musical areas as well. We had some pretty tight timelines on the first day with hotel check in and back to back festival performances, photos and clinics. Not once did a student ever complain about this. Thank you for being flexible as changes arose and for thinking of the group first! Furthermore, I had Granville Island shop owners, and other people mention that Spectrum’s students were the “best behaved and most polite group they had seen all week.” Thank you to our student loading crew (led by crew captain, Nathan F.) for handling all of our equipment, luggage and uniforms! The crew had to load and unload busses and set-up equipment nearly a dozen times over the course of the two days. Wow! Thank you to our parent chaperones for all of their hard work during the trip: Carol, Jen, Lynda, Lucie, Gary, and Wendy & Ken - we couldn’t have done this without you! Thank you for looking after everyone! Finally, a big thank you to Carol Davis for the countless hours that she put in to organizing the trip and all of the details to move 81 people. This was our largest overnight/away trip and it went off without a hitch. Sincere thanks from all of us! Outstanding work, all - your work ethic and playing are truly inspiring. I am so proud of you and am so proud to be your teacher! Sincerely, Jamie Davis Hi Everyone,
I received our marshalling information for the Victoria Day Parade this morning (Better late than never!). Our registration number is No. 113 and we are in marshalling section E-10 which means we are in the second half of the parade, towards the end. While we are in the second half of the parade we still need to be at Mayfair Mall at 7:45am. Please bring water, and wear sunscreen if it’s a warm day. Thank you! Jamie Davis ![]() Hi Everyone!
