Thank you to our Sr. Jazz Band for performing at the school awards night on Thursday night! It was standing room only (that’s a first in the 9 years that I’ve done this “gig”) and the jazz band was on fire. Well done and congratulations to ALL award recipients! Marching Band - Great work at the Esquimalt Buccaneers Day parade on Saturday! The band played very well and the audience was very appreciative! I am very proud of all of you and I think this was a wonderful way to finish our season. Our Band 11/12 class had a great afternoon of Rooftop Volleyball at The Stickey Wicket following the parade. It was awesome! A big thanks to Breanna Lowe (Grade 11) for organizing this wonderful event. :) Here we are! The last week of regular classes… 1.) Band Classes:
2.) Morning/Lunch/After School Rehearsals: All morning, and lunch rehearsals are now finished. ***Only exception… Sr. Jazz Band will meet at Lunch on Monday to return and sort music.*** 3.) Requirements Due on Wednesday: Playing requirements for Band 9-12, practice cards for Band 9/10, and any outstanding assignments are due by 5:00pm on Wednesday, June 17th. PLEASE complete your REQUIREMENTS and TURN IN PRACTICE CARDS. These are the standing assignments for band classes. 5.) Year End SBPA Events Final Bottle Drive: Saturday, June 20th (9am-1pm) - All profits go towards sheet music and instrument purchases and start up for September. All help is appreciated! Even an hour helps! Sign up in the band room! Year End BBQ: Saturday, June 20th (2:00pm at Carol Davis’ Home – 983 Meadowview Place) - BBQ and Year End Party to celebrate all of your hard work this year! All Grade 9-12 students and their parents are welcome. Hi Band Folks!
Thank you for a wonderful Year End Concert on Tuesday night at the Alix Goolden Hall! All bands played very well and I am very proud of all of our musicians. Thank you grads and band parents for the touching tribute and for the beautiful gifts. I think I’m going to need a bigger house! :) Congratulations to Grade 12s Alyshia Jonison and Kathryn Brown who both performed in the School District Music Scholarship contest on Thursday evening. Both ladies won $400 scholarships! Thank you to Hyein Ji for accompanying both Kathryn and Alyshia on piano for their pieces. Great work, Marching Band! The Oak Bay Tea Party parade was a huge success. We came second this year and I am so proud of all of you for your hard work during the parade. Thank you to all of the parents who helped with hair braiding and uniforms in the marshalling area. It was a warm one this year so a HUGE thank you to Bob McIlveen and Aaron Lockwood for carrying water along the parade route and keeping kids safe during the march. Well done, everyone! We will provide background music, play O’Canada, and perform a feature piece during the ceremony. 4.) Marching Band Performs in the Esquimalt Buccaneers Day Parade – Saturday, June 13th Marching Band will be performing in the Esquimalt parade this Saturday. This is our last parade of the year and it’s a lot of fun! Band call time is 8:00am and we will be meeting on the corner of Old Esquimalt Rd. and Aldebury Street. A running order is coming with more details! :) 5.) Music Folders / Instruments / Uniform Returns Music Folders – All Jr. and Sr. Concert Band and Jr. Jazz Band music folders must be returned to the band room on Monday, June 8th. Instruments – ALL school-owned instruments, equipment, accessories (M. Band drum sticks, amps, etc.) must be returned by Friday, June 19th for maintenance/service checks. Yes! Loaner instruments are available over the summer. Uniforms – Uniforms can be returned to the band room starting Monday, June 15th. Last day for uniform returns is Saturday, June 20th. Uniforms can be hung up in the practice room on the racks provided. PLEASE make sure you include your shoes, neck ties, and any accessories issued to you. Make sure your uniform tag is in the pocket on the front of the garment bag (Please advise on the uniform tag if you would like your DEPOSIT CHEQUE RETURNED. Otherwise, they will be shredded at the end of June). 7.)
