OCTOBER 29TH is...
SPECTRUM BAND's SUPER SATURDAY
9AM - 1PM!!
1.) Please remember that Term 1 for Band ends THIS THURSDAY - October 27th at 5:00pm. Any playing 'requirements' must be completed by 5:00pm. Band 9 and 10 students must submit their practice card (initialed by a parent for Weeks 1 through 7). Please check with your students to see if they are done their playing requirements for band classes. You can also email me and I can let you know.
***Note: Pit Orchestra on Thursday after-school is cancelled so students may complete requirements.
2.) MARCHING BAND starts THIS THURSDAY at 7:30am in the Gym. All grade 9-12 students participate in the band (or in some cases, the colour party that carries flags). We will be practicing in the gym. Don't forget good footwear!
***Note: We are still working on transportation details for the Grey Cup parade on November 26th in Vancouver. Thanks for your patience.
3.) Our 'Back In Action' concert is on Thursday November 3rd at 7:00pm in the Old Gymnasium and it features out Jazz and Concert Bands. I hope to see you all there - your kids have been working really hard to prepare for it. Please see the attached .pdf Running Order for more specific details about this performance.
4.) Our first bottle drive is this Saturday from 9am - 1pm. I hope to see you there! A BBQ lunch will be provided by the Spectrum Band Parents association.
5.) UNIFORM PICK-UP - Thanks to our small, but dedicated team of volunteers we will be issuing uniforms on Saturday from 9am - 1pm. Please make arrangements to come and collect your uniforms.
***Note:There is one more uniform sewing night TONIGHT from 6pm - 8pm in the band room, if you are able to come and help.

It's official! Our marching band will be participating in the CFL Grey Cup Parade in Vancouver on November 26th this year! This will be a one-day mini-trip to Vancouver and we will be traveling by busses.
Parade Time: 10:00 AM -11:30 AM Saturday, November 26, 2011
Parade Route: Smithe Street at Hornby to Burrard Street, down Burrard Street to Canada Place and Jack Poole Plaza.
Parade Marshalling: Will occur in several areas, on Howe Street, Robson Street and Smithe Street. Your group will be assigned a specific marshalling location. These details will be designed specifically for your entry and will be circulated at the beginning of November.Full details including our travel arrangements will be published ASAP

Thank you to everyone that helped to make our 6th Annual Great Apple Pie Event a success! Thank you to our hard working students, parents and to everyone in the community that donated apples to this fundraiser. We couldn't have done it without you!
1.) All classes, morning rehearsals, and lunch rehearsals are running as per usual this week with a few exceptions to after-school rehearsals:
Monday - No Pit Orchestra
Tuesday - No R&B Band
Wednesday - Meeting for all singers / instrumentalists accepted into R&B Band this year!
Thursday - First Pit Orchestra Rehearsal
Friday - None
2.) Band 9 and 10 Practice Cards - Don't forget that practice cards are part of your mark for Band 9 and 10. Don't forget to fill out your practice card every time you practice!
3.) Band Tour Payments - If you have not already sent in your 1st Tour payment please do so ASAP. We are also asking that you provide post-dated checques for the rest of the tour payments
4.) Marching Band - As you may have heard, we have been invited to march in the Grey Cup (Canadian Football Championships) opening parade in Vancouver. Students were asked to vote on participating in this parade or the Victoria Santa Claus parade (both on the same day - Saturday, November 26th). The students have voted to participate in the Grey Cup Parade as this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance for them. Our Band Managers are sourcing out bussing options for this event. We will have more information for you soon!
