We hope to see you on Wednesday, November 2, at 7pm in the Old Gym. Admission is by donation and there will be a concession available. I have attached a poster for this concert - your assistance in sharing it on social media is greatly appreciated. :) STUDENTS: Your call time is 6:00pm in the band room. Please do not be late. Wear the uniform of the band you perform in first (don’t forget your long black socks and white dress shirt). SET-UP CREW: We are still in need of 5-6 more student volunteers to help with set-up after school on Wednesday. Please read the attached “Running Order” for more information. 4.) Uniform Pick Up / Jazz Vests / Shirts & Black Socks Uniforms will be handed out on Monday and Tuesday after school. Please make arrangements to take yours home! JAZZ VESTS AND TIES - If you have already been issued a jazz band vest and tie, please RETURN it on Monday. ALL STUDENTS MUST have a pair of long black socks and a men’s long-sleeve white dress shirt to go with their uniforms on Wednesday. I’m writing to you as the combined Glanford and Colquitz Middle School retreat band is in rehearsal at Camp Pringle on Shawnigan Lake. Fourteen Spectrum students are here as well. Their work as supervisors, clinicians, problem solvers, and leaders (both musically and non-musically) has been nothing short of AMAZING! Congratulations to our Senior Concert Band for an excellent performance on Thursday night! The group played really well and I’m so proud of you for rising to the challenge of playing some tough music after only a few weeks. Bravi tutti! Cops4Cancer - Performance and Fundraiser Our Drumline (Grades 10-12 marching band drummers) will be performing during the arrival of the Tour De Rock riders on Thursday afternoon. Time and details TBA. Drummers will be excused from classes. The line sounds AWESOME if you get a chance to hear them this week - well done, folks! I and several other Spectrum staff members are fundraising and collecting pledges for Cops 4 Cancer. Many of us are also participating in the staff/student head shave on Wednesday (yes that’s why I have this goofy comb-over right now! HA!). I am trying to raise $500 in pledges for the Spectrum CS team and am $175 away from that goal. Back In Action Concert - November 3rd (7:00pm) After a 1-year hiatus (due to an unfortunate/awkward elbow injury) our 'Back In Action Concert' is... well… back! The full band program (both concert bands, both jazz bands, the drumline, and jazz combos) will perform during fall ‘Back In Action!’ concert on Thursday, November 3rd (7:00pm in the old Gym). Students will need to be at Spectrum no later than 6:00pm in full uniform. More details to follow next week. 6.) Glanford Band Retreat Glanford Middle School’s annual band retreat is coming up on Sunday October 16 and runs until Monday, October 17th at Camp Pringle on Shawnigan Lake. I am looking for 10-15 highly motivated Grade 10-12 Spectrum students who are interested in attending this retreat. Spectrum students act as leaders and help with supervision, run games and ice-breakers, play and perform in rehearsals as well as run instrument sectionals to help GMS students with their music. The cost is $90 this year and includes all meals, accommodations, and transportation. Please read the attached information package for more information. “Band Camp” counts towards volunteer hours for graduation. 7) Level Ground Coffee Orders Our next Level Ground Coffee order is due on Friday, October 14th.
