Another busy (but exciting) week at Spectrum band coming up! Thank you to all whom participated in our 2nd Bottle Drive of the year. We made $1267 which will be dispersed among the students accordingly. A BIG thank you goes out to Bonnie McCallum and Tracy Gudgeon who finished up our uniforms. This was a massive undertaking and the years proceeding will be that much greater from their hard work and persistence. We are forever (and sincerely) grateful!! Jr Jazz kicks off the night at 7pm sharp... Admission is by donation and there will be a concession available. Your assistance in sharing it on social media is greatly appreciated. :) STUDENTS: Your call time is 6:00pm in the band room. Please do not be late. Congratulations to Jewel Foster, appointed ambassador to special guest Wendy Tilby (Spectrum Alumnus and two time Academy Award Nominee) as well as Scott Gordon, Ethan Sawyer (Spectrum Grad), Hunter Ellis (Spectrum Grad), Rowan Wolfe (Spectrum Grad), whom performed at Spectrums very first Distinguished Alumni Dinner, held at the Ward room CFB. Glanford Band Retreat A reminder to those who have handed in your forms and attended our meeting this Friday at lunch: Please pack appropriately to the weather. Rain coats are our friend :) Please arrive at the Glanford Middle School Parking lot with bag and instrument no later than 8:30am. It would be stellar if you could arrive donning Spectrum Band wear if you have a sweatshirt, t-shirt etc. See you soon! 5) Spectrum Band Bottle Drive #2 Two more weeks before our second bottle drive of the year. Looking forward to making a dent in our fundraising efforts with as many parents and band members available to make this our biggest yet. An hour of your time driving students picking up recyclables would be very much appreciated. If you can stay longer, even better! Our bottle drive takes place Saturday, October 28th from 9am-1pm in the Spectrum parking lot.. Proceeds will help students increase their individual band accounts as well as help replenish much needed monies towards the purchasing of uniform items i.e. shoes, blazers, pants etc. We are always in need of drivers and students. I hope you all had a restful, relaxing, (not to mention) much deserved long weekend with family and friends. A belated Happy Thanksgiving to all! Congratulations to the grade 10s, 11s and 12's who marched our cyclists in to the gym for this years Cops for Cancer Fundraiser... you sounded great and brought a new energy to this important event. Together, Spectrum raised over $18,000 dollars for the cure and the band provided a boost to the riders: https://twitter.com/SpectrumThunder/status/916031748869316608 A HUGE thank you to Bonnie McCallum, who spearheaded this years Uniform fitting night. Thank you to the team of fantastic parents (Cynthia, Deanna, Tracy, Audrey, Christine, Liz, Kyoko and students Abby McCallum and Abby Bowes) who volunteered their time... and helped streamline and answer questions. If you were unable to make the two nights advertised, an email contacting those who missed with a set date will come in the next few days. Well done to all of you!!! I can attest to this since two were apart of this years thanksgiving festivities :) There is roughly 12 pies left in the freezer for the taking... let me know if you'd like me to put one aside for you and you can pick it up at your convenience. 5.) Glanford Band Retreat Glanford Middle School’s annual band retreat is coming up on Sunday October 15 and runs until Monday, October 16th at Camp Pringle on Shawnigan Lake. Forms went home to all those interested, please come to the band room for more information. I am looking for 10-15 highly motivated Grade 10-12 Spectrum students who are interested in attending this retreat. Spectrum students act as leaders and help with supervision, run games and ice-breakers, play and perform in rehearsals as well as run instrument sectionals to help GMS students with their music. The cost is $90 this year and includes all meals, accommodations, and transportation. Please read the attached information package for more information. “Band Camp” counts towards volunteer hours for graduation. Please have your forms back to Mr. Jolliffe by Thursday, October 12th. 6) Level Ground Coffee Orders Our next Level Ground Coffee order is due on Friday, October 13th. Spectrum Music holds monthly coffee sales, partnering up with Level Ground Coffee! Level Ground Coffee is sold in 1 lb packages, and most varieties are available as whole beans or ground. Coffee is sold at the same price of $16 each. This fundraiser benefits individual student credit accounts. $4.63 of each coffee pkg sold is credited to assist students with music related expenses.
