Spectrum Band: Oct.29-Nov.2nd

10/28/2018

Hi everyone!

First off, a big congratulations to our students. For many, this was their first concert with Spectrum Band and I am very proud of your performance. Lots of lessons learned and a great experience for everyone!

THANK YOU families, friends and Spectrum Band alumni for coming out and supporting our annual fall concert. It was nice to see the bleachers full and plenty of new and familiar faces. If you missed out on the night, I encourage you to come to our Winter Concert as it will be another fantastic evening.

With the donations collected, we raised $572.32 dollars. Thank you thank you thank you! We will be purchasing some much needed equipment upgrades which will benefit the program immediately!

Here is whats happening this week, schedule below

1) Spectrum Band Inaugural Christmas Market
This has been a huge undertaking and I thank Tracey Gudgeon for spearheading this initiative and Cheryl Bowes for taking up a lot of the extra planning. This has the potential to be a MAJOR fundraiser for the Band AND our students.

We are looking for as many baked goods to be donated AS WELL as some parent volunteers for concession, rovers and general help. Your shifts can be 3 hours long or all day. A parent volunteering will have their hours applied to their band student. It takes a village and we would be very grateful in your support by firing up the oven and getting some cookies out :) or spending some time in the gym with us. A small army of students have already applied.

Good afternoon Everyone!

Thank you for the well wishes! Everyone is back on track and I am looking forward to returning and working with all of you this week!

Thank you to parents who drove their student up to Uvic to take in the inaugural first concert of Uvic Wind Symphony season, it was a great concert and we look forward to supporting our local School of Music.

It is a short week today so here is what's happening:

1) Fall Back in Action Concert
Our Annual Fall Concert is coming up quick and I couldn't be more excited! Please make every effort to come out and support your young musicians. Bring your grandparents, uncles, aunts, dentists, paper delivery person, your next door neighbour... we have a great set featuring all four bands! I look to seeing you there: Wednesday, October 24th @ 7pm in the Old Gymnasium. Entrance by donation.

2) FINAL UNIFORM FITTING
Bonnie McCallum has kindly offered her services for a final fitting for families who were unable to make it. This includes a small number of Grade 9's as well as a few upper grades. Seniors (11/12) She will be in class at 8am so your speed and efficiency will be required. 9's, you will complete your fitting during Block A.

Parents, if you have some free time this Wednesday, we would be very grateful! Many hands make light work

3) Edmonton Tour 2019
Thank you for the quick response. There are 2 spots remaining for this years Prairie Tour. Have your form with cheque delivered to Mr. Jolliffe as soon as possible. First come, first served.

4) New Logo Unveil
I am pleased to introduce a number of new logo's that will slowly pop up over the school. Kevin House of Kevin Creative was kind enough to make this a spring project and delivered numerous renditions for us to choose from. We came to our conclusion after polling several students over the last few months.

5) 1st Annual Spectrum Band Craft Market Hours
Our 1st Annual Spectrum Band Craft Market is approaching steadily and we will need many hands to make this run smoothly. Band students, please sign up for a shift (or multiple shifts) to help out. This can be found on my front door. Your time will go towards increasing your personal band account so take advantage of this opportunity!
