Hello everyone!
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you all enjoyed the holiday weekend and had the opportunity to visit with family and friends! On Friday, students who signed up for this weeks concert enjoyed an evening at Uvic, taking in music presented by the Uvic Wind Ensemble and Dr. Capaldo. It was a very strong concert that included 6 Spectrum Band grads: Meghan Parker, Katherine Forster, Scott Gordon, Brendan Wong, Tyler Schmit & Ethan Slogotski. Well done guys! ***CONCERT CHOIR REHEARSAL SWITCHES TO TUESDAY MORNING TO MAKE UP FOR A LOST MONDAY. PRACTICE CARD WEEK 5 IS DUE TUESDAY*** 1) BACK IN ACTION Concert: Two weeks away! Our 16th annual Back in Action Concert is two weeks away : ) (Wednesday, October 30th 7pm in Old Gymnasium) featuring Spectrum's Large Ensembles: Concert Choir, Junior Concert Band and Senior Concert Band. Please invite as many of your family members to come out and support this fantastic group of developing musicians. We guarantee a fun-fill program. Admission by donation. Rush Seating. 2.) 2nd Annual Spectrum Band Christmas Market Our 2nd annual Christmas market is back! We are currently filled to the brim with vendors and accepting more as the come in. This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, generating considerable income for the band program needs and band students. A full sign up sheet for shifts will be circulated at school this Wednesday. Opportunities are first come, first served. A great chance to earn money for our band trips! 3) Stitching, Sewing, Cutting, Marking Call to Action A HUGE THANK YOU to Spectrum Band Alum. Bonnie McCallum for leading the Band Uniform mending, hemming, sewing, stitching, cutting and then some. Bonnie along with Liz Forster, Tracey Gudgeon and Christine Surridge had many of the uniforms ready for them to be sent off to our tailor. There are about 5 or 6 uniforms left. They have been doing this by themselves, and unfortunately their requests for help have gone unanswered. You do not need to know how to sew, hem or even thread a needle. Instructions provided... with many hand make light work. Please consider donating a few hours of your time as they have for the program: https://forms.gle/YBtk9kvF1XG9jjDq5 Have a good week everyone! -- Parker Jolliffe Director of Bands Spectrum Community School 957 Burnside Road West Victoria, BC V8Z 6E9 Tel: 250-479-8271 pjolliffe@sd61.bc.ca www.spectrumband.ca Follow us on facebook! Good evening,
It's October!... and I'm bald...ish! Cohen giggled uncontrollably, Charlie looked at me funny and my wife had a few choice words... Thank you to those of you who contributed to this great cause! Congrats to those of you who braved the intermittent rain, our first bottle drive resulted in a $2059 profit!!! Thank you to all the parent drivers and students who showed up, and those who stayed until the last drink box was sorted. This is a new record! We are in great shape everyone, I am very proud of all the work our students and parents have been putting in to this program so early. Whether it be Chuck-a-Puck, Bottle Drives, Uniform fittings, Cops for Cancer, Morning with a Pro, Decorating the Band room for Halloween... the list goes on. I am so lucky to have such great students and families supporting our music program. THANK YOU! 1) Spectrum Band Parents Association The SBPA will try and formalize a weekly newsletter for you to read when possible. This will keep you updated on all of the wonderful events, fundraisers and speciality jobs that need volunteers. Many hands make light work and we are always welcoming new faces. She will be in the Spectrum Band Room this Tuesday and Wednesday from 6:30pm onwards... a Thursday evening may be necessary. If you can thread a needle... have someone else thread a needle for you... sew a button, a sleeve, a cuff, a pant leg... she would be very grateful! Come for 10 minutes or a few hours. Every little bit helps! ***Schedule as per usual, Practice Card Week 4 is due Monday*** Thanks everyone!
