Hi Everyone!
Thanks to everyone that came out to the bottle drive on Saturday! We had a really good turnout despite the chilly morning. Together you raised $1154! On a personal note, thank you for all of your support as I’ve been recovering from all of this “fun” over the last few weeks. Your cards, cupcakes (yum!), texts, emails, well wishes and phone calls, and checking in were very touching and it’s very heartwarming to be a part of this community. Thank you all very much. Here’s what we have on the go for this week: 1.) Band Classes in Period 1 and 2: Monday – Band 9 in Period 1. Tuesday – Band 10 in Period 1, Band 11/12 in Period 2. Wednesday – Band in Period 1 Thursday – Band 10 in Period 1, Band 11/12 in Period 2. Friday – Band 10 in Period 1, Band 11/12 in Period 2. Practice Cards: Continue recording for week 10, turn in the last few weeks for marking. :). 2.) Friday – MARCHING BAND AT 7:30AM… ***followed by our traditional “Hallway Serenade” at 8:30am***…, Band Council Meeting at lunch, None. 3.) Marching Band: Practices and Parade on Saturday The Spectrum Marching Band WILL still march in the Island Farms Santa Claus Parade on the evening of Saturday, November 28th! Yes, we only have a few days to get this together BUT WE CAN DO THIS! I believe in all of you and hard work is the heart and soul of this program. Let’s show Victoria what we can do! Crowds usually number between 20,000-30,000 people. :) PRACTICES: ALL GRADE 9-12 students are involved in marching band! Practices will be Monday-Friday at 7:30am in the Old Gym (for the first 2-3 days, then on the all-weather field). Please wear good footwear! Uggs, flip-flops, and stilettos make for (hilarious) tripping hazards! :P PARTICIPATION IS FACTORED INTO YOUR CONCERT BAND GRADE. More importantly, absences from M. Band affect everyone else in the band. Please make sure you are in attendance. Try your best even if you are new! The more you do it, the easier it gets. :) There are lots of students that can help you. ***I will email out marshalling information, meeting times, hair/uniform information etc. on Monday afternoon as soon as I have confirmed final details with the Parade Organizers.*** Sorry for the delay! Thanks, everyone. Drive safely to morning band – it’s getting slippery out. Take care! Sincerely, Jamie Davis Hi everyone,
I MISS ALL OF YOU! I hope this message finds you all doing well. I am having surgery on Monday to repair my broken arm and elbow (…I’m hoping they’ll honour my request for a flame-thrower in place of an arm!). ;-) At this point I do not know how long I will be away from Spectrum. Thank you for working so well for my TOC, Mr. Underwood. Unfortunately, the Back In Action Concert has been cancelled and will not occur this Thursday night. Apologies for having to make this call. :( I will not be checking emails until I return to work. Rehearsals and classes (inside and outside of the timetable) will continue as normally scheduled. Mr. Underwood will advise students in class if there are changes. Marching Band Please practice and memorize your parts for “Jingle Bell Rock/Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.” Marching Band will begin as soon as I return to work. Wishing you all the best! I am really missing all of my students tonight. Cheers, J. Davis Hi Everyone,
Sorry for not getting this out to you sooner. It's been an interesting couple of days... I tripped during the Band Movie Night on Wednesday night and broke my right fore arm (yes, the "conducting arm") and did some decent damage to my elbow and shoulder. I will be away on Monday but will return to work full time on Tuesday. Thank you for working so well for my TTOC, Mr. Underwood. Monday: Sr. Concert Band at 7:30am Period 1: No Band 9 class. Grade 9s will go to PE with Ms. Wilton (Remember to bring your $1.50 to Ms. Wilton to participate) Jr. Jazz Band at Lunch. Pit Orchestra cancelled after school. Tuesday: Sr. Jazz Band at 7:30am Period 2: Band 11/12 class. Period 1: COMBINED Band 9/10 class. Please make sure you have instruments. Jr. Jazz at Lunch. Tuesday Back In Action Concert: POSTPONED I have decided to postpone Tuesday's BIA concert. Please understand that this is a very difficult decision for me :( but due to the risk of possible surgery needed, I'd rather not chance it. Please accept my most profound apologies for any inconvenience this causes. I am trying to have this rescheduled to NEXT week (most likely Thursday). I will let you know on Tuesday when I am back to work what the plan is for the concert and for the remainder of the week. Uniform/Band Tour Questions: If you have questions or concerns regarding uniforms please email uniform coordinators, Nicola Harris (nicola.harris21@hotmail.com) and Nadine Gordon (nagordon@shaw.ca). If you have questions or concerns regarding the spring Band Tour to San Fransisco please direct emails to Jacquie Hawey (spectrumbandparents@hotmail.ca). I will try to get back to all of your emails sent since Wednesday as soon as I am back to work. Sorry, the one-handed typing is slow-going... Thank you for your patience and understanding at this frustrating time. It means a lot. Cheers Jamie Davis |
