Hi Everyone,
Congratulations to everyone involved in the marching band at the Island Farms Santa Claus Parade! An excellent performance all around (and with only FOUR rehearsals leading up to the big event). A big thank you goes to out to our new students and grade 9s, especially, for taking this on and doing SO well. :) The weather cooperated (for the most part) and there were no complaints from students. Thank you to all the band parents that came to help with hair braiding and to our grade 12s for their leadership in the marshalling area (pinning scarves, decorating horns, drum maintenance, everything!). Our annual “Carol Band” started off well last Tuesday and Friday with 43 students participating (a record number!)! Thank you to Grade 12 student Meghan Parker for volunteering to conduct this ensemble! Band This Week: 1.) Sr. Jazz THIS AFTERNOON Don’t forget that we have a gig at Christ Community Church (3897 Holland Ave) this evening. The truck will be loaded at 4:00pm at the school, students will meet at CCC at 4:30pm, and the gig starts at 5:30pm. Bottle Drive #3 - December 3rd Our third bottle drive is on Saturday, December 3rd (9am-1pm in the school parking lot with a hotdog lunch to follow). We REALLY need parent drivers to support our bottle drives. The Band Parents Association offers DOUBLE CREDITS for parent drivers. All students are expected to be out collecting during the bottle drives. A question arose about the allocation of funds raised at bottle drives. 30 percent of the profits from the bottle drives goes to the band program general accounts to purchase uniforms, sheet music, instruments, festival fees, bussing to festivals and any items that are not covered by the school. 70 percent of the profits are divided up amongst the student and parent volunteers (for band tour payments, personal instrument purchases, reeds, music, etc.). Thank you for supporting our fundraising efforts this year. :) 4.) An alumni band webpage can be found here: http://spectrumbandvictoria.weebly.com/alumni-band.html Spread the word if you have older siblings or friends that were bandies over the last 10 years! For my current students - if you are interested in helping out by “beefing up” some sections in the alumni band you are most welcome to attend the rehearsals listed on the webpage.
