Band This Week: December 14-18 / Sr. Jazz Band Gigs, Carol Band Gigs

Hi Everyone! 

Sorry for the delay in getting this out to you!

Thank you for a wonderful concert on Thursday night! While we didn’t have out Back In Action concert this year I think our Christmas concert really opened our concert season nicely. Congratulations and thank you to everyone that was involved in making this a success – especially all the kids that performed so well. Bravo, folks! 

Tuba and Euphonium players (Sarah, Josh, Cam, Jason, and Scott) from the Spectrum Band had a great afternoon performing in Victoria's annual Tuba Christmas concert down in Market Square (and helped to raise money for the Times Colonist Fund)! 84 tubas and euphoniums made up the ensemble - a record number! 

Here’s what we have on the go this week:

1.) Band Classes in Period 1 and 2:
Monday – Band 9 in Period 1.
Tuesday – Band 10 in Period 1, Band 11/12 in Period 2.
Wednesday – Band 9 in Period 1.
Thursday – Band 10 in Period 1, Band 11/12 in Period 2.
Friday – Band 9 in Period 1 (20 min classes).

Practice Cards: Continue recording for week 13, turn in week 12 for marking, please.

2.) Morning/Lunch/After School Rehearsals:
Monday – Sr. Jazz Band at 7:30am, Sr. Jazz Band at Lunch, Pit Band Meeting at 3:10pm (all members MUST attend).
Tuesday – Sr. Jazz CANCELLED, Jr. Jazz Band at Lunch, Carol Band Practice 3:00pm – 4:45pm.
Wednesday – Sr. Concert Band at 7:30am, Sr. Jazz Band at Lunch, Pit Band at 3:15pm.
Thursday – Jr. Jazz CANCELLED due to Carol Band gigm, Sr. Jazz at Lunch, Pit Band at 3:15pm.
Friday – Jr. Concert Band CANCELLLED due to Carol Band gig, None, None.

3.) Sr. Jazz Band Performs at Craigflower Elementary on Monday Evening, Spectrum on Friday afternoon

Our Senior Jazz Band will be performing for the Craigflower Elementary School Christmas dinner on Monday evening. Student call time is 4:00pm in full uniform with set-up and warm-up to follow. We will perform a 45 minute set between 5:00pm and 6:00pm with tear down and pack-up to follow. Students can be picked up from Craigflower at 6:30pm. Craigflower Elementary is located at 2766 Admiral’s Road just before the bridge. 

Sr. Jazz will also perform at our school assembly at 11:00am on Friday. Uniforms are not required.

4.) Carol Band Performances This Week

The Carol Band has a number of quick but important gigs this week. Teachers have been notified that some of these performances will occur during class time. Please make sure that you arrange to pick up homework, notes, assignments, etc. No uniforms are required, except for Santa Hats/Reindeer Antlers, and a Spectrum scarf. Gig schedule is below:

    A.) Monday – Marigold Elementary Choir Concert
    Meet in the Band Room at 12:15pm, head to Marigold, perform in the middle of the concert, return for Period 4 classes. 

    B.) Wednesday – Carols for Colquitz Middle School 
    Meet in the Band Room at 11:15am, walk to Colquitz, perform during their lunch break (Noon – 12:30), walk back to Spectrum for the end of Period 3.

    C.) Thursday - Glanford Pancake Breakfast
    Meet AT GLANFORD MIDDLE SCHOOL (4140 Glanford Ave.) at 8:00am in the Band Room. Perform from 8:45am – 9:30am, return to Spectrum after we have breakfast (bring your own plate and cutlery, please!). 
PARENTS: We are in need of rides back to Spectrum at 10:00am. If you are able to help, it would be greatly appreciated! We have 30 performers in Carol Band this year! Please let me know if you can assist with this. :)

    D.) Friday – Spectrum’s Pancake Breakfast
    Meet in the Band Room at 7:30am, Chef will provide you with breakfast, perform from 8:00am – 9:00am (2 sets, with a break in between).

5.) Band Parents Meeting On Monday Night

The Spectrum Band Parents Association meets on Monday night at 7:00pm in the school library! All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. 
One final week before the break! Finish strong everybody!

Hi Everyone! 


It’s here! Our first all-bands concert of the year! Here’s what we have on the go this week… Please note that there are some schedule changes this week: 


1.) Band Classes in Period 1 and 2:
Monday – Band 9 in Period 1.
Tuesday – Band 10 in Period 1, Grade 11s/12s to English in Period 2.
Wednesday – Combined Band 9 and 10 in Period 1.
Thursday – Combined Band 9 and 10 in Period 1, Band 11/12 in Period 2.
Friday – All grade 9s and 10s go to PE in Period 1, Band 11/12 in Period 2.

3.) Winter Concert – Thursday, December 10th - 7:00pm


We hope you will join us for our annual winter concert on Thursday night in the Spectrum Gym! All bands have been working extremely hard over the last few weeks to prepare. The program features festive and seasonal arrangements in a variety of different arrangements! 


Notes:
The poster for this concert can be found here! Feel free to distribute to friends, family, etc. that would be interested! Let’s pack the Spectrum gym!
Student call time is 6:00pm in full uniform (if you play in multiple bands, please wear the uniform for the band that you perform in first).
The concert starts at 7:00pm. Admission is by donation of hamper items or cash donation to local charities. 
***Student help is needed for set-up crew and emcees. Sign up in the band room!***

4.) Carol Band


The school’s carol band will practice on Tuesday after school and Wednesday at lunch. This is open to all students and there is no limitation on instrumentation. It’s shaping up to be the biggest carol band we have ever had! Our first performance is at our winter concert! I am finalizing some information with Glanford, Colquitz and Marigold schools for our annual visits to those places. More information to follow! 


5.) Tuba Christmas 2015 – Saturday, December 12


Victoria’s Tuba Christmas (50+ tubas and euphoniums playing carols together!) is this coming Saturday, December 12th. Please let me know if you are interested in participating. 
Schedule: 8:30am – Registration at UVic ($5 per person, purchase your Tuba Christmas music for $18 per book); 9:30am – rehearsal at UVic; 1:00pm - concert in Market Square. Let me know if you need a ride or are able to help provide rides for our musicians and their tubas/euphs!
