Spectrum Music News: Dec.18th-22nd

12/17/2017

Good Afternoon Spectrum Band Family!

Well, wouldn't you know it! It is already that time  of year where everyone will hopefully have an opportunity to visit with friends and family over the Holidays and re-charge!

It has been quite the ride so far at Spectrum and I couldn't be more pleased with the musical growth, enthusiasm and appreciation displayed by our students. Music continues to be explored from all genres and styles and it is a delight to arrive to work every day... and be greeted by such keen, earnest, hard working individuals. Thank you to my students, families, colleagues and band parents who have made this transition for my family and myself such a positive one! It is inspiring to be a teacher here and I hope that reflects in my teaching with all of you.

If I don't see you before the break, I wish each and everyone of you a fantastic holiday! Whether you are travelling elsewhere or staying in town... take advantage of the extra rest wherever you may find it. We hit the ground running to new and exciting opportunities when we return. Until then, Happy Holidays everyone!!!

Good Evening Spectrum Band Family!

Thank you to everyone who was able to make Spectrums Annual Winter Concert on the 7th... it was so nice to see the bleachers full. We aspired to present a wide variety of music and we hope you enjoyed it! I was very proud of our students, all of whom, navigated some very challenging music with heart and vigour!

If you have any pictures of the bands, please send them our way to www.spectrummusicnews@gmail.com. It would be much appreciated!

Jonathan Berry, Key lead for the Spectrum Food Hamper Drive was absolutely thrilled to see so many food donations along with $200 that will be donated to the cause. Thank you for contributing to this community initiative!!!

Thank you to all who came out to Tuba Xmas this year (as spectator or performer)... we had a few Spectrum current, past students along with the Montgomerys dawning our orange and black scarves. If you missed it, be sure to join us next year (photo from last year for posterity)...we had a record setting 100+ low brass players caroling in Market Square... if not hilarious, it is a site to see :)

Good Morning everyone!

Its concert week  and we are looking forward to sharing with you, what we have been working on these past few weeks. We are entering a very busy time for the music program... our bands are in high demand... as such you will see many opportunities to perform and contribute around our great community and neighbouring schools!

***A few have alerted me that they stopped receiving their weekly email. I apologize for the inconvenience and I am working with IT to figure out a solution. It would appear that shaw emails are placing this letter in an update folder or junk folder or spam folder. To those who have contacted me, your email is still in our contact list and it shows that is has sent out (which is even more confusing!) Rest assured, IT says they are tracking the issue. In the meantime, our website contains this very same email. Thank you for your patience***

A gentle reminder that the Christmas poinsettias have two pick up times. 6 p.m. till 6:45 p.m or you can pick up again after the concert ends. Pre-pick up is for those who have made special arrangements but are not affiliated with Spectrum or music students specifically.

7. Tuba Xmas
A holiday favourite is right around the corner: Tuba Xmas!!! If you are new to Victoria or have simply never been... join us on Saturday, December 9th at 1pm in Market Square downtown... here you will lay witness to over 65 tuba and euphonium players Caroling! It is a sight to see and has been a favourite of mine. Spectrum students who play trumpet, euphonium, trombone or tuba are invited to speak with me this week. The more, the merrier!

8.) Country Grocer and Spectrum Band

For everyone who shops at Country Grocer, here is a fast and easy way to contribute to this growing music program. Submit any receipt from Country Grocer to Mr. Jolliffe and we receive 5% of the total amount of all receipts collected. Help us out by telling your family, friends and co-workers. We are looking towards upgrading our tenor saxophone 'fleet' as we have more players than we do horns.
