Jamie Davis ![]() Hi Everyone, Thank you to the Marching Band for your performance at the Esquimalt Buccaneers Day Parade on Saturday! A quick story... One of Victoria's professional bassoonists, Cuyler Page, has been in all of the same parades as us this year and asked me to pass this on: (He was the gentleman riding the large penny-farthing bicycle in front of us yesterday morning). He remarked that our band did NOT sound like a typical marching band... Instead we sounded like a marching CONCERT BAND with lots of attention to balance, dynamics, phrasing, and quality sound. He said he enjoyed our performances and likened the sound of the Spectrum Marching Band to Frank Battisti's bands and marching bands. (Mr.Battisi is one of the most renowned American high-school & college band directors, famous for his work with sound concepts and repertoire in the concert band genre. Mr. Page was a student of Frank Battisti's.) Well done Spectrum. :) 1.) Morning Band - All morning rehearsals are now finished. I am a parent who was helping with the celebrations last night and wanted to let you know that I was very impressed with your band, not only because they are amazingly talented but also because throughout the evening I had several encounters with your students who were helpful to those of us packing things around the hallways. Several of your students offered to help carry things, as well as opening doors for me while my hands were full, they were all very polite and helpful, so a big thank you to all of them for being such a wonderful group of people!
