My name is Parker Jolliffe and I am your son or daughter’s new music teacher at Spectrum Community School. I am very excited to work with all of you this year... I had a great time today, meeting new and returning students and although I did not meet everyone, I sure felt welcome! Looking forward to meeting many more in these next few days.
Students who need to rent from the school, please come see me at lunch or after school Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week.
If you are new to the Spectrum Band Program, it is tradition to send out a weekly email Sunday nights. This gives us an opportunity for everyone to stay on the same page and leave no surprises :) Once I have received all the Parent/student information forms, I will collate the emails and start sending them out as soon as possible :)
In addition to the emails you will begin to receive from me, you may receive emails from our Spectrum Band Parents Executive, a group of parent volunteers who help keep this amazing program running in the right direction!
Here’s what we have on the go this week:
1.) Band Classes in Period 1 and 2:
Wednesday – Band 9 in Period 1, Band 10 in P.E, Band 11/12 in English
Thursday – Band 9 in P.E, Band 10 in Period 1, Band 11/12 in Period 2.
Friday – Band 9 in P.E, Band 10 in Period 1, Band 11/12 in English
2.) Morning, Lunch, After School Rehearsals:
Rehearsals begin next week, Monday September 11th.
- All morning rehearsals start promptly at 7:30am.
3.) Fall Start-up Forms
All students will be given a package of forms during their first band class. Please return the Student/Parent Information Sheet, the Uniform Agreement (and 2 cheques) and the signed Cover Page by Friday, September 15th. This helps me to make sure that I have correct contact information for you and your family. Please check with your student if you have not received this yet. Let me know if you would like me to email copies of the forms home to you.
4.) Band Information Night and Band Parents Association Meeting – Monday, September 11th, 6-8pm
This Monday, we will be hosting an information night for all parents at 6:00pm in my classroom. If you are new to the band program, come learn what it’s all about. Bring your questions! Following that meeting will be the first meeting of the Spectrum Band Parents Association. The Band Parents Association is a TREMENDOUS help in raising funds to support the band program as well as organizing/issuing uniforms, publicity and promotion, and much more. We are in need of parents who can do a little, or a lot! Please consider coming out to see this fun and dedicated group of parents!
5.) Bottle Drive #1 - Saturday, September 16th, 9am-1pm
Our first bottle drive will be held this Saturday from 9am to 1pm in the school parking lot. Bottle Drives are one of the quickest and easiest way to earn money for your student account (earn money for band trips, lessons, instrument purchases etc.) and for the band general account (to buy school instruments, music, uniforms etc.). We are in need of at least 10-12 parents to drive students to canvass the neighbourhood. We need AS MANY STUDENTS as possible to come out to help support this fundraiser. While fundraising is not mandatory, partial help (even and hour or two) is preferred over no help at all. Please remember that the majority of our fundraisers benefit ALL of the band students at Spectrum.
* Parents – If you are able to help with driving, please bring a photocopy of your driver’s license and insurance to the bottle drive. There is a school district form that needs to be filled out before you take students out in your vehicle.
6.) The Band’s GREAT APPLE PIE EVENT! - Year 12
Our big fall FUNraiser has started! Every year band students canvass the neighbourhood and pre-sell our homemade apple pies for $10 each. They are DELICIOUS, are homemade by our band students, and come packaged ready for you to bake and eat OR freeze for a later date. We encourage all students to sell pies to family, friends, neighbours, and teachers. Students will earn money for their individual band accounts and earn money for the band to purchase new instruments and sheet music.
WE ARE IN NEED OF APPLE DONATIONS! Please let me know if you have apples to donate to this fundraiser. We do not have a lot of storage at the school – if you can hold onto your apples until Friday, September 30th that would be really helpful! If not, we will try to figure out a storage solution. If you need students to come and pick your trees, please let me know as well.
* We are in need parent coordinators to help make this fundraiser a go. There are detailed instructions to assist with this. Let me know if you are interested!
* Pies are $10 each. Payment must be taken at time of order. Incomplete orders/orders without payment will not be filled.
* Order forms are due on Friday, September 26th. No late orders will be accepted. Please bring money/order forms in a sealed envelope with your name marked on it.
* More information about pie making day to follow next week.
