Sept.14-18, 2020

9/13/2020

Dear Spectrum Band Parents and Students,
What a pleasure it was to see students return to Spectrum! I look forward to working and catching up with all of you over the course of the year. Despite our late start, we will press ahead and continue making music, adhering to the protocols recommended by our health officer and provincial association (BCMEA). This week, Students will receive (in the meetings listed below) a full Spectrum Band Covid Safety Plan which you will need to review together. I am confident our plan will take care of any possible questions or concerns you may have.

Here is our first week at Spectrum:

1) What do I need for the first week back?!
All grades will need to bring an old t-shirt, scissors and regular materials needed for their Block A and C classes. No instruments needed at this time, unless otherwise noted. Please refer to the meeting times listed below as to not miss any important information.

2) 2020/2021 Spectrum Band Schedule
Spectrum students had the opportunity to pick up their timetables for the year. Due to COVID, all High Schools in Greater Victoria have moved to a Quartered system. Fortunately, much of how our Fine Arts Department operates remains the same... with an altered schedule (enclosed).

Junior Concert Band Members (Grade 9 and 10): Meeting in class.
Senior Concert Band Members (Grade 11 and 12): Meeting Wednesday, September 16th @ 8am in Theatre. No Instruments.
Junior Jazz Band: Meeting Tuesday, Sept. 15th @ Lunch. No Instruments
Senior Jazz Band: Meeting Thursday, Sept.17th @ Lunch. No Instruments
Concert Choir: Meeting Wednesday, Sept.16th @ Lunch

EARLY MORNING, LUNCH HOUR REHEARSALS BEGIN SEPTEMBER 21ST ONWARDS.

3) Spectrum Band & Choir Student Check in
Spectrum Band students, please complete this google form ASAP as it will enable us to organize instrument rentals, ensemble placements and general organization.
https://forms.gle/kPSoSfMJaZXYwLLv5

4) Fundraising
For new families, Each Spectrum musician fundraises for their own account, which can help offset the costs of any events or trips Spectrum Band participates with  All due dates are FINAL and students & families will be reminded when different orders are due. A list of events will be distributed once the calendar school year is finished.

As always, please do not hesitate to speak with me if you have questions or concerns. My contact information is listed below.

Have a great week everyone!

Hello everyone!

Congratulations to members of our Pit Orchestra, Cast and Crew for delivering 6 fantastic shows filled with laughter, song and dance. It is always such a thrill to be surrounded by such immense energy! You should all be very proud of yourselves as you continue to strengthen the reputation of Spectrums Musical Theatre Program.

Bravo to Kayleah D. and Ella J. whom performed in their final recital for the Esquimalt Township Arts Mentorship Program. Both have been working very hard, enjoying the rigours of private lesson and musical opportunities. Well done!

This week is our final of school before a well deserved break. I am very proud of all of our Spectrum Music Students. February and March always prove to be a busy two months of preparation, exploration and musicianship. I do think that these opportunities (whilst stressful at times) help to strengthen a students resolve, fortitude and vigour. My sincere thanks for your determination and patience. YOU ALL ROCK!

***Schedule returns to business as usual. MONDAY SLEEP IN CHOIR :) ***

Stay tuned as we will be offering additional fundraising opportunities in a few days (extra bottle drive, raffle tickets etc.)

Have a great week everyone!
