Thank you again to students and family members who came over to the Spectrum Music Room and introduced themselves throughout the week... boy did I feel welcomed! Thank you thank you thank you!
As a result, I couldn't have asked for a better start-up. Most bands had the opportunity to play and work together as a team. Sight reading tunes is always an exciting time and I am glad we could hit the ground running!
There are many events coming up at Spectrum Music: our first meeting (Monday, September 11th... everyone is welcome!), Bottle Drive (This Saturday, Sept.16th), Morning with a Pro, Great Apple Pie event etc. etc... a great way to stay connected is via email, which typically arrives Sunday nights. If you haven't had a chance, please fill out the student/parent info form that was handed out in a package last week and return as fast as possible. I would like to get those emails out as fast as possible :)
Looking forward to another great week!

3.) Fall Start-up Forms - Please return ASAP!
All students were given a package of forms during their first band classES. Please return the Student/Parent Information Sheet, the Uniform Agreement (and 2 cheques) and the signed Cover Page by Friday, September 15th. This helps me to make sure that I have correct contact information for you and your family. Please check with your student if you have not received this yet. Let me know if you would like me to email copies of the forms home to you.
4.) Band Information Night and Band Parents Association Meeting – MONDAY, September 11th, 6-8pm
This Monday, I will be hosting an information night for all parents at 6:00pm in my classroom. If you are new to the band program, come learn what it’s all about. Bring your questions! Following that meeting will be the first meeting of the Spectrum Band Parents Association. The Band Parents Association is a TREMENDOUS help in raising funds to support the band program as well as organizing/issuing uniforms, publicity and promotion, and much more. ALL parents are welcome to attend the meetings. They are always looking for new parents to help organize fundraiser and coordinate various events.
5.) Bottle Drive #1 - Saturday, September 16th, 9am-1pm
Our first bottle drive will be held this Saturday from 9am to 1pm in the school parking lot. Bottle Drives are one of the quickest and easiest way to earn money for your student account (earn money for band trips, lessons, instrument purchases etc.) and for the band general account (to buy school instruments, music, uniforms etc.). We are in need of at least 10-12 parents to drive students to canvass the neighbourhood. We need AS MANY STUDENTS as possible to come out to help support this fundraiser. The Band Parents Association will provided a BBQ hotdog lunch once all sorting is finished. While fundraising is not mandatory, partial help (even and hour or two) is preferred over no help at all. Please remember that the majority of our fundraisers benefit ALL of the band students at Spectrum.
* Parents – If you are able to help with driving, please bring a photocopy of your driver’s license and insurance to the bottle drive. There is a school district form that needs to be filled out before you take students out in your vehicle.
6.) The Band’s GREAT APPLE PIE EVENT! - Year 12
Our big fall FUNraiser has started! This will be my first Great Apple Pie event and I'm looking forward to rolling up my sleeves and take part in my inaugural pie journey!
Every year band students canvass the neighbourhood and pre-sell our homemade apple pies for $12 each. They are DELICIOUS, are homemade by our band students, and come packaged ready for you to bake and eat OR freeze for a later date. We encourage all students to sell pies to family, friends, neighbours, and teachers. Students will earn money for their individual band accounts and earn money for the band to purchase new instruments and sheet music.
WE ARE IN NEED OF APPLE DONATIONS! Please let me know if you have apples to donate to this fundraiser. We do not have a lot of storage at the school – if you can hold onto your apples until Friday, September 29th that would be really helpful! If not, we will try to figure out a storage solution. If you need students to come and pick your trees, please let me know as well.
* We are in need parent coordinators to help make this fundraiser a go. There are detailed instructions to assist with this. Let me know if you are interested!
* Pies are $12 each. Payment must be taken at time of order. Incomplete orders/orders without payment will not be filled.
* Order forms are due on Wednesday, September 27th. No late orders will be accepted. Please bring money/order forms in a sealed envelope with your name marked on it.
* More information about pie making day to follow next week.
