Thanks to everyone that came out to support the bottle drive on Saturday! The weather was nasty but we did manage to raise nearly $800 for student accounts and the band general account. The band recently won $750 thanks to a second-place finish in the city Bottle Drive contest. :)
Thank you to everyone that attended the Sr. Concert Band performance and THANK YOU for your donations to the Red Cross Fort McMurray relief efforts. We will be sending $369 to the Red Cross very soon.

Parents, please have a look at your student’s band pants. Some kids have grown… a LOT… since uniform sizing in the fall. If your student is now wearing band “band hip waders” or “band-pris” you are welcome to adjust the hems on their pants if you can. If you aren’t comfortable with sewing/adjusting the hems please let me know and I’ll make arrangements for you.
4.) Oak Bay Tea Party Parade – Saturday, June 4th
Marching Band will be marching in the Oak Bay Tea Party Parade next Saturday, June 4th. Please meet at Windsor Park in Oak Bay no later than 9:00am. Students can be picked up from Willows Beach around 12:00pm (Sorry, I can’t be more specific as I’m not sure of our parade position yet). Please read the running order for more information.
We are again in need of hair braiders. Thanks to everyone that has helped with this for the last 2 parades! :)
*Please make sure all colour party uniforms, drums, black sticks, and mallets are returned on Monday June 6th.
5.) Year End Band Concert
Our Year End Band concert is quickly approaching! All bands will perform on Tuesday, June 7th at the Alix Goolden Hall in The Victoria Conservatory of Music. Student call time is 5:45pm. Doors will open at 6:45pm for parents. It’s going to be a great show and your kids have selected again selected the program that they would like to perform for you. Admission is by donation. We hope you will join us!
Please read the running order for more information.
*We are in need of parent drivers with trucks/vans to transport gear, stands, and instruments to the concert and back to Spectrum once we are done. We will meet at Spectrum at 3:00pm for loading. Please let me know if you are able to help with this (firstname.lastname@example.org)
* The concert poster is below (Thanks Breanna L.!). Your help in sharing this on social media is greatly appreciated.
6.) DVD Sales
Mr. Schwarz has recorded a number of concerts this spring and DVDs are available for $5. Please let me know if you would like to purchase any of these!

7.) 2017/2018 Band Tours
We are exploring several options for tours for the following two years and will have information for you soon. Thank you for patience! Our original plan for a “All-Canadian” tour did not pan out as well as expected so we are going back to the drawing board on this. We are still looking at a week of travel time (most likely to the US as the dollar is starting to improve) with a good, structured balance between educational, musical, and fun activities. (Please remember: only 3 minutes of fun per day on tour… ).
