I hope you all enjoyed the long weekend. :)
Thank you to Grade 9 students Luke B., Ryan H., and Kyle H. for coming with me to Glanford Middle School to speak about being involved in band and getting involved in high-school. You guys rock!
Welcome to Semester 2! With first semester finished our focus now shifts to lots of performances and parades, festival trips, the band tour, and much more!

4.) Bottle Drive – Saturday, February 14th – 9:00am to 1:00pm
Our next Bottle Drive is this Saturday from 9am-1pm in the school parking lot.
Yes, we realize that this is on the same time as Valentine’s Day (or Singles Awareness Day, depending on how you look at it!) and was planned so as not to bombard our school community with bottle drives every few weeks. Many students have said that they are “too busy” or simply “not interested in coming to help because of Valentine’s Day.” This is disappointing as funds raised from this bottle drive will be used for busses to take ALL BAND STUDENTS to the concert band festival in Port Alberni, and ALL of our jazz band students to the West Coast Jazz Festival. We need the student body to pull together and help out! We are asking for a few hours of time to help make these group travel experiences possible and offset rising festival fees to make this accessible for all. Please consider coming out to support this, even if just for an hour or two. Parents who drive students will continue to receive double credits.
5.) Fine Arts Showcase for Spectrum Students – Tuesday, February 17th – During school hours.
Next Tuesday, the Fine Arts Department will present a reprise of our Fine Arts Showcase a few weeks ago. Senior Jazz Band will perform during Period 2, 1 and 4. Your teachers will be informed. I will let you know more details in the next few days (in rehearsal). Please think of a set-list that you would like to perform for your peers.
6.) Hermann’s Jazz Club Night – Tuesday, February 17th – 7:00pm
Our Jr. and Sr. Jazz Bands will be performing at Hermann’s Jazz Club next Tuesday night starting at 7:00pm. Call time for this performance is 6:00pm with Jr. Jazz performing first, followed by Sr. Jazz. Full uniforms (long black socks, pressed shirts, clean shoes) are required. Admission is FREE! Come check this performance out. Hermann’s is an all ages restaurant and is open to all ages. I recommend reservations if you are planning on dinner – it has been packed when we have performed there in previous years! Call the club for more information: 250-388-9166 or visit www.hermannsjazz.com
7.) Held Needed! A Touch of New Orleans Prizes
Do you or does your business have a product, service, gift-card, or all-around cool “thing” to donate for a prize!? The Band Parents Association is asking parents for donations of prizes for our annual jazz and dessert night in April. We will take anything! We will begin producing raffle tickets for the major prizes and putting together student prizes (for top sellers) in the next few weeks. Please let us know if you can donate something by February 15th. Please email Jeannie Burns (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you have something to donate.
