Thanks to everyone that came out to the Bottle Drive on Saturday! With 65 kids and parents out (14 drivers!) we had a great drive. Congratulations on raising $1872 in bottles and $20 in cash donations… PLUS we received a $500 prize for coming in second-place in the Return-It school contest for 2014/2015. Well done, everyone!
All of our classes and ensembles (with the exception of the Pit Orchestra which will start once music arrives) are now up and running! Thank you to all of my students for their hard work in these first 2 weeks as we get settled back into the band routine. Thank you to all of the parents that came to our information/band parents association meeting (sorry for having to run! Yes. I did catch the ferry!). I will be at “Meet The Teacher” night on Thursday night if you have any questions.
***Our Senior Concert Band is preparing for a joint concert with the University of Victoria Wind Symphony on Friday, October 16th (8:00pm at the University of Victoria Farquhar Auditorium). We hope to see you there! The Wind Symphony is considered to be one of the premiere performing wind ensembles in the Pacific Northwest and it’s an honour to receive this invitation!***

4.) Morning With A Pro – Saturday
On Saturday, September 16th Spectrum is hosting it’s annual Morning With A Pro! This is a beginner band workshop for our neighbourhood Grade 6 students from Glanford and Colquitz and an opportunity to get a head start on their instrument! We are in need of student volunteers to assist with various jobs throughout the day (student sign-in, running snacks, some playing and assisting our pros, set-up, clean-up etc.). The time commitment is from 8:00am to approximately 1:00pm and a pizza lunch will be provided. Please let me know if you are interested in helping out with this event. :)
5.) Apple Pie Sales Deadline Approaching - Friday
The deadline for ordering our delicious apple pies is approaching. All orders and money (in envelopes, please!) must be in to the band office by 3:00pm. Cheques can be made payable to “Spectrum Band Parents Association.” (Sorry that wasn’t on the form!).
RE: Pie Making Day on Saturday, October 3rd - A shift sign up will be available in the band room starting on Tuesday. We are asking for all students to commit to at least one shift so that we can spread some of the work out throughout the day. We are trying to avoid a large amount of students and parents leaving after lunch is served (production starts to slow down and drag on.) YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO STAY FOR THE DAY or stay for more than one shift, but we do ask that students ALSO commit to the afternoon shifts, please!
PLEASE make arrangements to PICK YOUR PIE ORDERS UP from the school on October 3 (after 12pm) or on October 4 (10am-12pm). Thank you!
APPLE DONATIONS are still needed to make this fundraiser successful and profitable for all. Please let myself or Ainslie Lowe (parent pie coordinator: akalowe @ shaw.ca) know if you are able to help!
Have a great week, all!
