I hope you had a good weekend. We had a great week last week and all bands and classes (except pit orchestra) are now rolling - we're off to a really strong start. Thank you to the parents that came to the Band Parents Meeting - it was nice to meet you! Thank you to everyone that has returned their fall forms. 4.) Uniform Sizings This Week
Please make sure that you attend a uniform sizing session on either Monday, September 16th or Wednesday, September 18th (both are from 6pm - 8pm in the band room). The uniform moms would appreciate
it if returning Grade 10, 11, and 12 students could attend the MONDAY session and new Grade 9 students attend the WEDNESDAY session. This is a BIG job to coordinate. If you are a parent that is able to help, please contact uniform
coordinators, Lynda Charchuk (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Jen Lindsay (email@example.com).
5.) Sr. Jazz Band Performance
The Sr. Jazz Band has been asked to perform at Spectrum's mini "We Day" on Thursday (Yes. I know this is earliest gig we've ever had in 7 years :) - but they're actually ready to go on a few tunes!) - a wonderful opportunity for developing and building school culture. The band will be performing twice throughout the day. More details are coming from the organizers/Leadership teachers. I will let students know in rehearsal.
6.) Fundraising Projects
The Great Apple Pie Event
Thanks to everyone that has been selling pies! Our goal this year is 1000 pies! There will be prizes for the top three student pie sellers (announced on October 5th). We are in need of apple donations to make this event work. If you have apples to donate or know of anyone who would like to donate please let me know!
September 27th: Order forms DUE (The school published a calendar that says they are due on the 21st. This is wrong.)
October 4th: 4pm-7pm - Volunteers needed to set up the cafeteria.
October 5th: 9am-5pm - Pie Making Day - We will need LOTS of students and parents will be making
pies in the cafeteria. Orders will be ready for pick-up at Noon!
October 6th: 10am – 12pm – Last day for order pick up.
Bottle Drive #1
Our first bottle drive of the year is on September 28th from 9am-1pm. We need lots of parents and students out to make this successful. The Band Parents Association will be providing a hot dog lunch and snacks. If you are a parent
driver please make sure that you fill out a Volunteer Driver form at the school office BEFORE September 28th.
Scrap Metal Drive
A rep from Schnitzer Steel spoke at the meeting on Wednesday - we have an opportunity to raise some significant
money to purchase instruments for the program! If you've been collecting Scrap Metal over the summer you can now drop it off at Schnitzer's located at 307 David St, Monday to Friday 8-4:30 during the month of September & October.
Please let the attendant know that your donating to 'Spectrum School Band/Scrap Drive' BEFORE you drop off. To help make this fundraiser successful, tell your friends, family & co-workers! We will also be collecting metal during the Bottle Drive, October 26th!
Here's a list of a few items that can be donated:
cars, car parts, car rims, kitchen sinks, copper plumbing pipe, bathroom taps,
old screws & nails, BBQ, filing cabinets, bikes, lawn mowers, chains,
household appliances, aluminum doors or window frames, metal or aluminum
roofing/siding, bottle caps, metal fencing/posts, steel desk/office furniture,
