Thank you for an awesome “A Touch if New Orleans” Jazz and Dessert Night on Friday evening! The jazz bands and combos played well and the evening really came together nicely with the desserts and all of the service shifts that kids worked. Thank you so much to Nancy Wong and Alison Hoogland for their hard work behind the scenes organizing prizes, raffle tickets, auction items, and presenting the evening! We couldn’t have done it without you and all of the parents that helped out behind the scenes on Friday (Bonnie, Jacquie, Chuck, Victoria, Liz, Russ, and many more!). Thank you to Mr. René Schwarz for recording the evening as well. Bravo and THANK YOU, all!
Congratulations to Grade 12 student Andrew Montgomery! Andrew won an “Adjudicators' Discretionary Award for Outstanding (Oboe) Performance” at the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival last week!

The Jr. and Sr. Jazz Bands will be traveling to Nanaimo on Wednesday, May 3rd to participate in the West Coast Jazz Festival (the bands will perform, participate in clinics, catch the VIU Big Band Concert and the Adjudicators’ Combo performance, in addition to hearing school jazz bands, and a group dinner). Students will miss all 4 classes.
It is expected that all band members participate and travel will be by school bus/coach. The cost of the trip is $30 per student and will include all travel, music “stuff", and a group dinner. Cheques can be made out to the “Spectrum Band Parents Association." Please send me a quick note if you have a financial concern (confidentiality assured). Call/Departure time TBA. A running order will be available later this week.
Please fill out THESE THREE permission forms and return them by this Friday with $30. Yes. They are completely redundant...and repeat a lot of the information BUT they are legally required by the school district (my bosses). :o) As everyone on THIS trip has traveled to Oregon or Port Alberni you do NOT need to fill out the lengthy medical forms again (YUSS!!). Please advise if any medical information has changed since those trips, though.
