![]() Hi Everyone! THANK YOU for an amazing day on Saturday! To all of our students, band parents, band alumni, parent alumni, family, and friends – a most heartfelt thank you for making our 8th Annual Great Apple Pie Event a massive success. I can't believe we made 1100+ pies in that amount of time! It was also great to see so many students (across all four grades) working together towards completing this goal. I enjoyed getting the chance to meet so many new parents and catch up with returning parents. :) I am really proud of what was accomplished this weekend. Thank you, again. Doug Butler has uploaded some of his photos to his website. Have a look: http://photography.doug-butler.com/p1038961355 If you have pictures of the event, I would love a copy on a CD or Flashdrive for our bulletin boards, display cases and archives. ***Please note that there is NO Bottle Drive on October 13th – as mentioned on the "Dates to Note" sheet. 1.) Both our junior and senior concert bands received invitations to perform at "the Nationals" after receiving GOLD (SUPERIOR-PLUS) ratings at the Vancouver Island Concert Band Festival in April. We are currently working on an itinerary and travel plan that will be affordable for all families (we also have some very profitable individual fundraisers coming up soon). We also hope to have information for the Germany 2015 Band Tour soon. More information to follow. 7.) Scrap Metal Fundraiser - Our next large-scale fundraiser is our Scrap Metal recycling fundraiser which is running NOW until Saturday, October 26th. This is a fundraiser for the band program general account that will help pay for festival entrance fees as well as raise funds for much needed instruments, music, supplies, and uniforms. To help us achieve our fundraising goals we are asking for your support through the donation of any amount of scrap metal. Scrap metal materials can be dropped off now till October 25th at ‘Schnitzer Steel’ (307 David St, Mon-Fri 8am-4:30pm). Advise the yard attendant your metal is being donated to ‘SPECTRUM SCHOOL BAND/SCRAP DRIVE’. The band will also be collecting metal donations at the school, 957 Burnside Rd, Saturday, October 26 from 9:00am-2:00pm. ***Check out our business donation letter (if you know of a business that would be interested in donating scrap metal) and our flyer advertising this event. We require at least 12 parent drivers to take students canvassing for bottles, 4 or 5 parents to help sort and bag bottles and LOTS of students! Students will receive an extra credit to their band accounts for each parent that can help. Please let either Sue or myself know if you can help, even helping for as little as 1 hour makes a difference to the overall success of the Bottle Drives! Also Mother's Day hanging baskets will be available for pick up at the bottle drive from 9-1, we are unable to store baskets so please plan ahead! A hot dog lunch will be provided. If you are planning to travel on next years band tour to Disneyland you can use money you earn at bottle drives to help with travel costs. Hope to see you Saturday!!!!!
