Hello Spectrum Music Families!
It is hard to believe we are two weeks away from winter break! Our music students have been busy putting finishing touches on various performances that will take place over these next few days... whether it be music, dance, theatre, visual arts... our students will be delivering excellent performances! Here is our next two weeks and how the Spectrum Music Department is involved. Please read carefully: December 8th - Spectrum Junior Jazz Band As discussed in class, the Junior Jazz Band has been invited to close the winter concert at Colquitz Middle School on December 8th. This is a wonderful opportunity to maintain our connection with our feeder schools and inspire our upcoming musicians. Students have been instructed to arrive at Colquitz no later than 7:05pm. They will enter the school and find the woodshop (Colquitz Band Parents will help with any navigation worries). Please arrive on time, in uniform with instrument and music in hand. As we are guests to this school, it is important we are consummate professionals: Be seen and not heard until performing. Concert should end 8:05pm. December 9th - Spectrum Choir, Junior Jazz, Senior Jazz Our specialty ensembles make their season debut on December 9th! We look forward to sharing with you a host of music from all walks of life and will guarantee to put a smile on your face and a spring in your step. Please remember, admission to this concert is by donation of non-perishable goods for Spectrum families in need over the holiday. We appreciate your consideration of this request! Doors open 6:45pm, all jazz band members should sit with family members with instrument and music ready for quick transitions. Choir will warm up in the music room. As this show is sold out, we have generated a wait-list with which you can sign up should there be an opening: https://forms.gle/Tb7rTmUffDy7jRaA6 Spectrum Fine Arts Showcase We are thrilled to be returning to a Spectrum Fine Arts Department tradition: The Spectrum Fine Arts Showcase. These three nights are a combination of music, song, dance, acting, visual and mixed media arts. The Fine Arts Department will be making tickets available via eventbrite starting Monday, December 6th. Please check the Spectrum Community School Website. The Music Department provides opening entertainment and a preview of our Mainstage Musical: Curtains! For every night, please arrive in the band room 6:30pm sharp in Uniform. December 14th: Junior Jazz Band December 15th: Concert Choir December 16th: Senior Concert Band All members of jazz band will receive their vest and tie in class. Members who are in jazz AND choir should remain in their jazz band uniform. Choir is All Black. I am really looking forward to this opportunity and I know students are excited to return to another evening of music making. AS ALWAYS, I am eternally grateful for the support we receive and your help in keeping our students ahead of the curve. This will be a wonderful two weeks! Sincerely, -- Parker Jolliffe Director of Bands & Choir Spectrum Community School 957 Burnside Road West Victoria, BC V8Z 6E9 Tel: 250-479-8271 ext.512 pjolliffe@sd61.bc.ca www.spectrumband.ca Dear Spectrum Music Families, It is Parade week! For new families to the program, a few times a year, the Spectrum Music Department shifts gears and places their focus and energy on forming the Spectrum Community School Marching Band. As mentioned in the last few emails (and calendar) the 39th Annual Peninsula-Coop Santa Light Parade is fast approaching. Parades are a part of our Performance-based program and every member of the music program is an important piece to our ensemble. We are very excited to be able to return to this parade after a year-long hiatus... students have been sharing their decorating ideas for their instruments i.e. X-mas tree out of a saxophone bell, garland , reindeer ears, lights lights lights lights and thistle. The Drumline will have light up drum sticks and the coveted Turkey Hat will once again, be worn and adorned by the Bass Drum player... (a yearly tradition). All in all, this is a great opportunity to serve our community and have fun whilst doing it. This past friday, we hit the field for the first time (in what felt like ages), and were cheered on by our neighbouring school, honked via cars passing by and those walking past the school (Check it out via our instagram and facebook page.) With one week remaining, the best support we could receive is making sure that every member of our program is up and in the band room 7:30 sharp Monday, Wednesday, Friday this week. Many moving parts (Colour Guard, Marching Band, Advanced Dancers. Thank you! Spectrum Band Garment bags with uniforms and Shoes are available to take home everyday this week. I have enclosed our Marching Band Information sheet for your review. ***December 3rd Concert has been moved forward to December 9th: We apologize for the shuffling of dates. We Initially moved our Dec. 9 date to allow for Winter Formal and Athletics Tournament. Winter Formal has been cancelled, giving us our date back. Event Brite tickets available November 26th onwards.*** Thanks everyone, I am looking forward to a fun week ahead! Parker Jolliffe ![]()

I want to thank each and every Spectrum music student for their hard work, diligence and rigour. I am privileged to be able to teach and connect with our musicians and I do not take our days together for granted. For many, the beginning of school meant (7) MONTHS away from their instrument and ensemble work. We have adapted to our new environment and persevered collectively. I am excited to share that we have wrapped up 5 Ensembles of recording and will shortly present to you, our "2020 Back in Action " Concert next week. Despite a lack of audience, it was refreshing to be able to come together in a safe way and perform once again as a group! Bravo to each and every one of you! Thank you to Deanna B. and Yvonne A. for orchestrating the Purdy's and Poinsettia's Fundraisers this year. Both were a great success and will help band students accounts! I have enclosed our order sheet for this years Spectrum Band Wear. Choir students, know that there is an option for "Property of Spectrum Choir" should be interested : ) http://spectrumbandvictoria.weebly.com/spectrum-band-wear.html Have a well deserved rest and joyful weekend!
